I know most of us are pondering our New Year's Resolutions and setting goals right around now. I'll get to that, perhaps on a future post.
But for today's Welcome-Back-from-the-Holidays post I just have a simple question:
Why is it that when Batman is caught by the bad guys, they never unmask him?
I would love to hear your theories, because I watch these episodes with my boys all the time, and this simply perplexes me.
And I'm quite certain there's a writing lesson in there somewhere. Perhaps something about logic in our plot lines? What do you think?

Because they're afraid to view his awesome hotness. Can you imagine how their jealousy would drive them completely insane (more so than they already are). ;)
Never thought about it before.
Never thought about it before.
Because no one can figure out where his mask actually starts...actually that's probably the Batman costume from the movies I'm thinking about.
Great question ... Maybe the writing lesson is to leave a little something to the readers' imagination? Happy New Year to you, best wishes for 2011!
I never thought about that either.
LOL. How funny! I've never thought about that. Um ... maybe he's got a deformed face, and they all know it? And don't want to embarrass him. ER ... nah ...
It's as much a mystery as this one: How come no one in Metropolis can see that Clark Kent is Superman in glasses? I like Joanne's answer.
Same as why all other superheros are never unmasked... it would ruin the plot!
:P
After reading everyone's replies, I'm going in a different direction.
I think it has to do with repressed S&M issues. Or is that M&M issues? =p
Because they stick to the code, even though they are more like guidelines anyway. Wait, sorry, wrong show.
They are super busy getting their tank of laughing gas, or liquid ice, or rabid penguins read in the tank below ready so the door will open slowly enough that batman can wiggle free and live to foil their diabolical plots another day. duh!
LOL. I think it's because they think the mask has some sort of electric shock device on it. :-)
Seriously, 'cause everyone's always tryin' to peak under Spiderman's mask.
Well, I don't know but if Scooby Doo's gang ever catch Batman, he's out of luck.
I don't think I've ever watched an episode of Batman. And now I CAN'T because I'll be shouting at the TV "Unmask him! UNMASK HIM!"
Sadly, this is one of those stupid plot devices that happens way too often in comic lit. Somebody commented before that it's because it would ruin the plot and they're right. That's the reason. There ARE Batman villains who know who the bat is and I believe they're stronger, more compelling and terrifying villains because of it. I wish this type of reveal happened more often. ;D Can you tell I'm a comic book geek? LOL
Good question! This will haunt me for the rest of the day. (I'll be thinking about it instead of those pesky goals that you mentioned.)
