Winner and a Question

Today I have winners for my giveaway of Leigh Moore's The Truth about Faking.

And drumroll please . . . . .

Beth who blogs at Of Muses and Meringues

and

Amy Sonnichsen who blogs at The Green Bathtub

Hurray and congratulations! Just let me know what format you would like (see that "Contact Me" page up top?) and I'll have it off to you.

Now, next item on the agenda. So I have this 8-year-old who has recently turned into a voracious reader, and I mean VORACIOUS! I'm talking zombie-piranha here. He has ripped through pretty much every book in my personal library, and a good number from the library as well.

He's gone through The Lightning Thief series (and its spin-offs), The Magic Tree House series, The Secrets of Droon series, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Prydain series, the Molly Moon series, gosh just more than I can name.

So I need suggestions. What books would you recommend for an 8-year-old boy?

Thanks for the prize, Janet! I'll be in touch about the format.

As for an 8-year old boy, the first thing that came to me was anything by Beverly Cleary. I always loved the Ramona books, but a boy might like one about Henry.

It sounds like he enjoys adventure, so I would also consider the Fablehaven series. They're great stories (you'd love them too; I read them out loud to the girls and they were fantastic). Take a look at the first one and you'd get an idea of whether he's old enough to enjoy them.

Whoooo hoooooo! I'm so thrilled and excited to read Leigh's book. Yippeee!! Thank you, Leigh and Janet!

My 8yo boy might be at a lower reading level, but his favorite books are Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants & Spaceheadz ... but your son has probably read those years ago, right? I know, my daughter is just like your son. It's so hard to keep her in books. Thank you, God, for libraries!! (Or we'd be broke)

squee!!! Hooray for Beth & Amy! I hope you guys like my book. :o) Thanks again to the lovely Janet for having me last week! <3 ((jugs))

As for the reading part, hmm... you hit the ones I was going to suggest. My daughter's just LOVING the Warriors series of books. I think it's pretty gender-neutral. Check it out! :o) <3

Congrats to the winners!

8 year old boy books, hmm... it's been a while. How about Charlie Bone? Peter And The Star Catchers? Gregor The Overlander series? The Bartimaeus Trilogy (maybe a little old?)? My son also loved If There Be Dragons, but I think that's a little older...

Peter and the Star Catchers series is good.
Alcatraz and the librarians.
Rangers Apprentice.
Fablehaven.
Pendragon.
Good luck!

There is a big series called 'Deltora Quest' by Emily Rodda. It's very good, perfect for boys who like gallant heroes and monsters. Also, she writes another called 'Rowan' and it is also pretty good. give them a try!

Zombie-piranha - love it!!! I just finished reading the first book in the Familiars series, and loved it! Even better is the Fablehaven series. Jacob Wonderbar is fun, too; also recommend the Skullduggery Pleasant series and How to Train Your Dragon series (if he can stomach the differences between the books and the movie!)

I hear Fifty Shades of Grey is super popular! Okay, now, seriously, I heard this 8-year old girl on the radio talking about how much she loved Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book.

Congrats to Beth and Amy!

This weekend, I'm starting PICKLE by my friend Kim Baker. I hear it's very fun! It's a middle grade novel about a prank club. :)

I've been on a blog break so I'm a wee bit out of touch with bloggy friends, but your blog looks great!

Have a great weekend!

I'm reading The Truth About Faking. Loving it so far. :D

I have a reluctant reader for an 8 year. :( My oldest is a voracious reader. If I could read as fast as him, I wouldn't have a TBR pile. lol

I have to agree with th suggestion of Emily Rhodda's Deltora Quest series if he likes fantasy. There's also a fun series, the first book is called Dark Lord by Jamie Thomson - the protagonists is an evil genius in the making.
And if he's looking for something with a laugh and zombies, you could always check out my book, My Zombie Dog ;)
