This vs. That: Stay-up-late vs. Get-up-early

First, I want to thank everyone for their great reading suggestions from last week. In fact, I think you are inspiring me to add another page to my blog. Something along the lines of "Book Suggestions." The idea is definitely swirling in my brain.

Now on to the subject at hand as a This vs. That post is LONG overdue. So, without further ado, I will jump to the numbers. As you recall, we were debating the finer points of staying up late vs. getting up early:

Total votes: 21

Stay up late: 10 votes; 47%
Get up early: 7 votes; 33%
Neither: 2 votes; 10%
Both: 2 votes; 10%

Clearly we have a couple of crazies with us. Both? Egad you two are gluttons for punishment. At the very least, I hope you sneak in a nap somewhere. OR, I guess if you have superpowers, that would work, too.

Ooh! Random thought: Next time someone asks, "If you could choose any superpower, what would it be?" I am totally choosing the superpower of not needing sleep. Wouldn't that be awesome??? Think about how much you could accomplish!

Okay, okay, back to the subject . . . Other than those two bizarre votes, these results are as they should be (so hopefully you can guess where I voted). As one commenter said (and I'm paraphrasing), the glory of staying up late is that you have this huge supply of extra time you can take advantage of! And don't we all need extra time? (*wink, wink*)

On the other hand, if you get up early, the day starts at the same time, just like every other morning and you get no extra time. Why not? Because you had to get up early to make up for the lost time of going to bed early. Seriously. Think about that.

But not for too long, because you have to make some decisions on the next debate:

Cat

vs.

Dog

I'll go with both on the cat and dog debate. Would take way too long to explain my choice, lol.

Oh no, I think I'm on the wrong side of the get up early vs. stay up late debate! So I'll just go with 'Cat' and leave it at that. :-)

Cat.

And if I'd voted, I would have been on the early side. I tried to understand your logic, but it's almost noon and I think I'm ready for a nap.

Dog, dog, a million times dog. I get so passionate about these things. I feel like yelling sometimes... DOG!

This one is a no-brainer. DOG!!! :)

Did I vote stay up late? Because I should've. Although now w/kids, my life has turned into get up early. Only my kids follow the same rule, so it's get up earlier. UGH! Hate. It.

Cat.

Love the dogs, but too much work post-children. :D <3

Oh noes!! I can't choose!! I love cats but dogs are super duper too so I'll be the crazy one this time and say BOTH! Yay!! Take care

Love both! But cats are MUCH easier to take care of!!! Tho I do like little dogs better then BIG dogs.

Cats. Oh yes. Cats.

As for your justification for staying up late, truly you have a dizzying intellect.

Cat. Picking up dog poop just isn't appealing. lol

Some days I'm both early and late.

Staying up late is wonderful because the entire world is quiet. And I love cats and dogs...is that bad? I probably have the personality of a cat, though, HA!

Definitely cat.

My vote goes to the dog - but it's a no brainer since hubs and I are allergic to cats.

I knew we were all crazy for staying up late or getting up early! ;)

I'm going to have to vote cat...even though I'm totally allergic. They're just so cute.

I didn't get to vote, but I'm firmly in the stay-up-late camp. Sometimes I work until I'm falling asleep at my laptop, and only then do I turn out the light. (Not every night, because I think that would kill me, but when I can manage it.) I swear, there's something magical about working that late. It's as if my internal editor is turned off, and I can just focus on getting the story out. I rarely remember what I've written in the morning, but when I read through, some of my best lines were written the night before, in a near-sleep haze.

P.S. Cat. Definitely. It's a lot easier to write with a cat on your lap, and they're much quieter.

How did I miss voting on this one??? Well probably just as well, I would have been torn. I NATURALLY love to stay up late, but I WISH I was a morning person instead. But then again I like your argument about not getting extra time. I think that's my excuse for continuing to be a late niter.

Cat vs Dog jeez you can't make this any harder, can you???? I love them both, but currently I have to vote for cats because I have four kids to take care of, and cats are lower maintenance than dogs.

I definitely am much more of a stay-up-later. :)

And I am DOG, all the way. Cats are cute, but dogs are so loving and fun and...okay, maybe cats are too, but I still prefer dogs.

Early for me, and I'd never give up my power of loving sleep! I get all tuckered out early in the evening and nothing I write after that is worth keeping.

I have a funny little cat that comes in my room at night and wakes me up, so I'll go with...

Dog.

Although I'm just about to take my two for a walk, so they may do something to make me want to switch back to cat again.
