This vs. That: Chocolate Chip Cookies vs. Sugar Cookies

Hello, hello! I'm so happy to be back. Especially because today is a This vs. That post. AND we had a record number of votes. So very awesome.

However, I find the results somewhat disappointing. I mean, really people. Does chocolate truly throw all other considerations out the window? But I digress. On to the results:

Total votes: 35

Sugar Cookies: 10 votes; 29%
Chocolate Chip Cookies: 25 votes; 71%

Of those who voted for chocolate chip:
ONLY if gooey: 2 votes; 8% (of the 25 who voted for ChC)
ONLY if crispy/dunkable: 1 vote; 4%
Coated with a layer of chocolate: 1 vote; 4%

I had to add the subcategories, because I found it fascinating. And just for the record, there were a couple of you who voted chocolate chip, but said you'd change your vote if the Sugar Cookies had a specific frosting or sprinkles.

Hello! Of course the sugar cookies are made exactly to your specifications. You crazies. So your votes went to Sugar cookies. Besides, they could use the help.

And is there really a question about my vote? I went sugar cookies all the way. No question. In fact, when I was little, I used to pick out the chocolate chips or eat around them. If I could. Some cookies were more chocolate than cookie. If I were around when my mom made them, I would request chocolate-less chocolate chip cookies.

So here's a question for you . . . what do you call a chocolate-less chocolate chip cookie? Seriously. I'm taking suggestions.

Okay, okay. On to the next vote. I debated this one. Last year, we did Real vs. Artificial, and I was sorely tempted to do it again just to see how the results compared (last year they tied). But there are so many great Christmas debates, I couldn't resist a new one. Are you ready?

What do I call a chocolate-less chocolate chip cookie? An abomination!! A fiend!! A thing to be banned! Ahem.

Anyway!! Awwww much as I adore Dr Seuss it's Christmas Carol all the way! Gotta love the "Bah-humbug"!

Take care

Mmmmm. Tough one. I like them both, but I'm going with The Christmas Carol, especially since there are so many awesome versions of it.

Despite being in the minority, I am all about sugar cookies.

Christmas Carol for me.

I would call a chocolate-less chocolate chip cookie an oxymoron! And ahem, I don't see my vote - chocolate chip only because oatmeal raisin wasn't a choice :)

OK. Onto the new this vs. that. You've chosen a really hard one because I LOVE the grinch but it is our family tradition to read A Christmas Carol in it's entirety every Christmas Eve, and my family has done it as long as I can remember. Plus, they basically tell the same story. So I vote for The Grinch because it's shorter, much more child friendly, and in Dr. Seuss's unparalleled rhyme :)

Oh, the Grinch for sure! Gotta love the rhyme. As much as I like A Christmas Carol now that I'm all grown up, as a kid it was just a dark, creepy, too-long story.

Now that's some solid research, worthy to be peer reviewed. But I have to draw the line of chocolate covered chocolate chip cookies. That would induce flashbacks!

Oh, this is tough. . . I've got to cast my vote with A Christmas Carol. It's a favorite. But I'll be watching and reading both this year, as usual. Good question!

A Christmas Carol. I love the classics, if only because reading all those big words makes me feel smart. Besides, it's one of the three books Tommy Monson reads each Christmas, which is good enough for me.

I missed your cookie poll, but I'm sure you know I would have chosen sugar cookies, especially if there are chocolate chips and candy corns on them in the shape of a jack-o-lantern. I'm also with you on minimizing the chocolate in chocolate chip cookies and I think the best and most appropriate name for said cookies is "Anti-chocolate chip cookies" or "Non-chocolate chip cookies". If you just go with the next most prominent ingredient after taking out the chocolate chips, you could call them Molasses Cookies or Brown Sugar Cookies. But that doesn't sound as yummy as "Anti Chocolate Chip Cookies".

I'd have to go with A Christmas Carol just because it's so timeless and versatile!

Also, I'm now craving cookies. BOTH kinds.

You won my giveaway, Janet! I'm just about to email you :-)

you silly fairy. Yes, the answer is YES. Chocolate throws out all other considerations. :D

And as for our new choice... hmmm. This is a hard one, but lately I've been in a Dickinsien mood. So I'll vote for A Christmas Carol. And that's the exact copy I have! It's very cool. Colorized. ;p <3

I vote for the Grinch!!! They are both moral tales, but Grinch is a lot more fun than Scrooge and Tiny Tim.

A "chipless cookie"?

Yeah, I agree with Old Kitty, "abomination" is a better term.

Love your posts, Janet! Your mention of the chocolate chip cookies with the chips reminded me I used to have to make a few without the chocolate chips for my daughter.

Definitely vote for A Christmas Carol.
