What I've Read from the Top 100

Emily V had this on her blog, and I thought it was interesting to see what others have read, so I’m copying.

A couple of disclaimers before I start:
  1. I don't know who originally made this list, so I don't know who is proclaiming these books to be the "Top YA." It actually excludes some I really love, and includes others I don't even consider to be YA.
  2. This list is NOT a list of my recommendations. Just because I've read it (or own it), doesn't mean I highly recommend it. And just because I haven't read something (and don't own it), doesn't mean I wouldn't like to. It's simply a list of what I've read.
So, with that in mind, here we go:

Finish The Book Thief!!

Seriously, it was hard for me to get into, but I was really glad I stuck with it. It changed my life as a writer.

I love a lot of your other choices!

I just find it interesting that the top 100 has about 400 books on it.

I don't generally read YA, leaning more toward adult contemporary fiction, but I have read a couple of these ... The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and the first Harry Potter.

Love the Shannon Hale books, and yes, I too am surprised that THE HOST is listed under YA.

Also, I agree with one of the earlier people on this thread who said you should finish THE BOOK THIEF. It starts really slow, but does eventually get more interesting. In the end it's totally worth the read.

I love this!!! And, I might just copy it from you to do for my blog!!! I'm surprised at how many books I haven't read that are on this list though. Hmm, what do I think you should read...probably Twilight, only because of all the hype on it. I'll admit it though- I did like them.

I've seen this on some blogs and find it interesting to see what different people have read and what they liked. I've got a lot of the same ones on my list (although I haven't posted it online.) So fun!

I'll bet you a donut this list was assembled by a female. Beastly as number 1? Gallagher Girls? That travelling pants series? Yep, all girl faves.

Instead, try this list compiled from actual ratings made by actual readers on GoodReads.com (which I recently joined).

My suggestions:
Flipped
Matched
Alex Rider
Gallagher Girls
(not really in that order)

I've read a lot of the books you haven't. A lot of them are good, but I don't know that I'd proclaim any of them a must-read except I do love anything Sarah Dessen!

I love the Alex Rider books but they're a bit boy-ishy.

What's your opinion of the Septimus Heap books? I was going to buy the first book a while ago but wasn't sure if I'd like it.

I've read quite a few of those on that list, but a good set of them are still on MY list to be read... so many great books!

Erggg! I have a serious love/hate relationship with this list. It mentions so many books that I really should have read by now, and I love that this brought them back to my attention, but I just don't have enough time. *Shakes fist at sky in frustration*

:)

Wow, I've hardly read any of these. Seriously! (Is it just me, or is does this list seem heavy on the fantasy? ... though I did see Sarah Dessen in there, I guess. I've read one and a half of hers.) I was glad to see you abandoned some mid-read. I do that with books all the time. I was worried I was the only one!

I've read a lot of these (does watching the Pretty Little Liars series on TV count?). But there's many I haven't, and many more that SHOULD be on the list. :)

I don't really read this genre. I am embarrassed to say, but the only one I have read on this list is the second Harry Potter book. I do want to read Hunger Games and Neil Gaiman.

I have about 30 - 40 of those in my MG classroom, but I haven't read all of those. I enjoyed the Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare. :)

Oh my gosh, you've read so many great books. This gives me lots of choices for the future! :)
