"I'm writing a book," he informed me.
I asked him to read it to me, and he launched into a story about his little sister playing with a friend. Then he stopped. "I haven't decided what these two squiggly lines say. I still have to write the next chapter."
After that, he started writing all the words he knew. And may I just say how giggly it makes me that he knows the word "Bob"? Right up there at the top. If you're writing a book, 'Bob' is an essential word. N'est-ce pas?
This, more than anything else makes me feel like a writer (okay, maybe getting published would top it). My kids see what I do, and accept it as the way it is. Not only that, they want a piece of it. (Little do they know what they're getting into!)
What makes you feel like a real writer?

A few years ago in preschool, the kids were asked all kinds of questions for a gradulation booklet. One of the questions was: what do your mom and dad do? My son said that I was a writer. That made my day. Especially when the only thing he could say about daddy was that he works all day in tower downtown. :D

What makes me feel like a writer...the two little credits on my sidebar remind me that I am a writer. The books on my bookshelves remind me of how far I have to go....
How wonderful that your children know and respect your craft. I feel like a writer when I'm immersed in a writing session, and the hands on the clock just keep turning without my even being aware of time passing. I'm just completely engrossed in the words.
That's awesome. Whenever we have family prayer in the morning, my seven-year-old daughter prays, "Please help that Mom will be a good writer today."
And I figure that's a good thing because I need all the help I can get.

I'm not sure what makes me feel like a real writer maybe because I'm not sure I have ever felt like a real writer yet.
My daughter does the same thing! I'm always saying, why don't you write words other people can read? And then she will. So cute!

that is pretty damned adorable, i remember when i was little i'd try to make my own newspapers but i didnt want to write any articles so it was just lines and comic strips

Awesome! I have one similar that makes me feel like a writer--when I overhear my 7 yo proudly tell her friends that her mom writes books.
So cute! And if you're going to write a book using primarily one word, "Bob" is a great choice. It's a name, it's a hairstyle, and it's an activity involving apples.

It is exciting when your kids see it as what you do.
So cute! When I was three, I told my mother I was going to read her a story, just like she read them to me. She had a flipped-out moment of thinking she'd raised a genius child, as I proceeded to leaf through my favourite book and recite it to her word for word. Then she realised I was doing exactly that--reciting! Time for more variety!

Oh, that is SO cool! I'm glad you took a picture! I caught my 3-year-old telling himself a story about a month ago, and unfortunately I only managed to record the last third of it, but it was pretty good! I love that he just sees storytelling as something that people do.
I feel like a "real" writer when I'm involved in something other than my own writing - taking a class, giving critique, getting critique. When I'm interacting with other writers. Probably says a lot about me and needing validation - LOL!
