Moments of Joy

It snowed here the other day.

Unawares, my 2-year-old ran outside and in a case of sheer serendipity, my friend caught the exact moment of discovery.

You can see the joy radiating from her face. Shining through her eyes. Bursting from her whole being. I'm completely in love with this picture (and not just because it's my daughter)!

Do you remember what it's like to feel that way? Do you ever want to burst with joy after writing a particularly good bit of work? After receiving a glowing critique?

What brings you joy like that?

P.S. I deeply apologize for lack of responding to comments! My internet has been spotty at best. Hopefully things will improve next week when we switch providers. *grumble, mumble, asparagus*

Great capture of joy.

Our youngest was the same way with snow we had a couple of weeks ago. He had to go build a snowman.

I think watching the kids discover and enjoy life brings me to a similar feeling.

I love the look children make when they notice something for the first time. :-)

Oh, she is too, too adorable. That photo is classic joy. I must say, I didn't feel the same way about our recent snow. That kind of happy does come from writing, though--sometimes.

What a truly wonderful picture! So lucky to capture such a moment! This is the face we should all keep in mind when writing picture books - that beautiful sense of wonder and discovery that is so much a part of childhood :)

Awesome, awesome pic. You should submit it to Parents magazine for reals. They pick a few reader photos for every issue.

What makes me that happy? Lately--new Dr. Who episodes. LOL.

I actually don't think anything brings me joy quite like the kind that is shown in this picture and that makes me sad. It makes me question whether I just coast through life or take time out to really wonder at the amazing things. Hmmm

That is precious! I miss moments like that. I think we worry too much what people will think when we get older. I try not to do that and let myself have fun and live in the moment.

This is the most precious thing I've ever seen! I love the way children's emotions are so honest and totally uncensored.

LOVE the picture! And yes, I totally feel that way when I get a good critique. (Although I try to tame the facial expressions.)

Hi Janet .. beautiful photo .. Snow - just amazes us .. and I love her little face.

When it snowed in Johannesburg - the Africans rushed out and pushed snow into paper cups and licked it! They loved it ... and when I got home my dog was completely dumbfounded with it all .. he rushed up to the car and snow 'fell' off it .. crunch, splat .. he dove around in complete delight - I've always remembered his antics and those of Africans seeing snow for the first time ..

Thanks - no wonder you love the picture - and Lenny sums it up perfectly .. cheers - Hilary

PS Good luck with the changeover!
