Signs

I so wanted a picture for this blog, but alas, you'll have to deal with my crappy artwork.

On vacation, we planned to meet up with my brother to do some rock climbing. We were supposed to connect in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Off we drive, until we see this sign.

So if you saw this sign, which direction would you go to get to Big Cottonwood Canyon? If you guessed straight, you'd be wrong.

I know, right? So we spent about an hour on a wild goose chase, dodging bikers in the middle of a race, pulling over so our kids could go to the bathroom find a bush. Not so fun.

We debated just abandoning the plan and skipping out on the rock climbing, but gritting our teeth, we finally made our way to the right place. And I have to say, it was totally worth it. The kids LOVED it. Even my 3 year old loved it, and he never got much higher than my head.

Point? You want a point? *Deep breath* Sometimes writing is like this. We do our best to follow the signs (blogs, interviews, publishing books, whatever), but still, things don't turn out the way we think they should. But giving up? Definitely not the best option.

So when's the last time you had to take a deep breath, and just force yourself to keep going?

LOL Sounds like my wip. It's nothing like the original outline. It was at one point, but during rewrites, I went a different route. ;)

That has to be the worst sign ever!! Although your drawing was pretty awesome. But how funny. You poor things, getting so long. Been there!

I've also felt like that in my writing too. Nothing to do but go back to the start sometimes.

This was great! One of my manuscripts has done a complete 180 since I started. I hardly recognize it!

Love your sign! That's rough. I need to grit my teeth and make myself get through a re-write of my WIP, BEFORE NaNo starts. *sigh* Definitely one I need to MAKE myself get through. :)

The first romance I ever wrote after only doing action suspense...I had to slow my brain down and just give the story a chance. Turned out to be one of my favorite things I've ever written.

Sorry you got lost. My husband and I always get lost, even with a GPS. I never did well with rock climbing. My legs were too weak, so I'd end up being hauled up. But usually I went because there were cute boys.

I am so not good with directions. With that map I don't have a clue where I would have ended up!! So glad you had fun once you got there! :)

Last time I had to take a deep breath and force myself to keep going? This morning when I got a late start and thought, oh well, maybe tomorrow... Good thing I ignored the urge :-) Loved your story!

This summer was a test of breathing and keeping on going...without medication (LOL) Our house is almost back to normal...a few baseboards, a few touch ups on paint and a bit of facia (that's probably spelled wrong) and I'll be able to clean and put our lives back in order...and focus on writing again.

Have a safe happy weekend, Janet!

Whoever made that sign is a total sadist.

But, point taken.

Great analogy. Seems like that has been my summer. I'm doing research for several book ideas, but life keeps sending me in directions that are hard to understand.

Have a great day!

Oh, all the time. It's why I call my first draft a train wreck. Because it is.

And dude! You were near Big/Little Cottonwood Canyon?? I live VERY near there.

Bad signage makes me grit my teeth. Sigh.

Last time I had to grit my teeth and keep working? Yesterday. I took my laptop to Apple for help with synching the phone to Outlook and since it took 30 minutes to sit there and download stuff, I worked on the next novel's timeline. I've dreaded doing it, but it worked out well. When I had nothing else I could do. ;D

I totally got the sign...good job! I have to take a deep breath almost every day. We won't go there, though.

Glad the trip was good (minus the not so good stuff).
